The Adolescent CBT Clinic runs tailor made 12 week psycho-educational programmes for adolescents age 12 and over. Each programme is based on Cognitive Behavioural Interventions and Techniques.

Each programme takes the individual through 4 different stages:
• Assessment
• Identifying the Problem and its Maintenance
• New Skills Development
• Practice

The Programmes will be tailored around the following issues:
• Low Mood and Sadness
• General Anxiety
• Social Anxiety
• School Refusal
• Food/Eating/Weight Issues/Body Image
• Low Self Esteem
• Drinking/Drug use
• Peer Pressure/Bullying
• Relationships/Sexual Development/Sexuality
• Anger Management

Each young person will initially attend an assessment which will be thoroughly carried out over two sessions. The therapist will then determine if the rest of the 10 week programme is suitable for the young person to continue with. Alternatively, it may be recommended after the assessment that the person attend individual therapy instead of the programme.

Aim of the psychoeducational programmes:
To help the young person learn what factors are maintaining their problem
To learn to identify unhelpful thoughts and maladaptive behaviours
To teach specific skills to break the vicious cycles they are stuck in
To practice the use of new skills
To reduce the likelihood of the problem reoccurring

Similar to counselling the programme is designed to build resilience, develop skills and learn new ways of thinking and behaving. Ultimately the aim is to get the young person to feel differently. Each programme is carried out on an individual basis. The issue of confidentiality is discussed at the initial assessment with your therapist.
